Rick Derringer, the classic rock guitarist who produced and contributed to the World Wrestling Federation’s album The Wrestling Album (1985) and Piledriver: The Wrestling Album II (1987), has passed away. He was 77. No cause of death has been given at press time.

A former member of The McCoys whose song Hang on Sloopy topped the charts Derringer also found success with his solo hit Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo. He also worked with both Johnny and Edgar Winter and their bands.

Cyndi Lauper’s manager David Wolff and Derringer produced The Wrestling Album together during the Rock n’ Wrestling era in the eighties. Derringer wrote performed Hulk Hogan’s iconic theme song Real American.

For the follow-up, Derringer produced the album, wrote Demolition’s theme song and performed Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo with “Mean” Gene Okerlund.
